VIEWS FROM AIRPLANES
The best thing short of human flight is the view out of the airplane windows when I am in flight. This jet powered tube stuffed with about the same amount of people as an eighteenth century slave ship packed in tight but tolerable destinations.
Looking through the port hole of a window seems to extend out from my mind and the limits of my cramped seat. Once I have settled into the physical limits of my long legs, I have this view out into the very cold heights of at least a few hundred miles. I scan and read that hundred mile wide space like I would view a coffee table book with all of its nuances.
I see historical scars, and patterns. Long dual lanes wear on the surface connecting one farm, town or city during the day but impossible to comprehend at night. The night also acts as a guide on the surface of that terrain in places. The capillaries of life the major freeway arteries, geometry, clouds, atmosphere, the often in-hospitible land is described through faint and slightly glittering lights far down below.
Over the next few months, I will be able to post some images of specific areas of the earth from the airplane flights as the most recent category of visual recording from my point of view.
